Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) is a group of inherited neurological disorders that primarily affect the cerebellum — the part of the brain responsible for balance, coordination and precise movement.
Symptoms can include difficulty with walking and balance, coordination of the hands and arms, speech, swallowing, vision and other neurological functions. Symptoms and progression can vary considerably depending on the type of SCA and the individual.
To raise awareness, support those affected by SCA, promote education and advocacy, and help advance research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
